Nursing Home Clean

PROCEDURE FOR CLEANING UNOCCUPIED NURSING HOME ROOM

Cleaning Tools & Materials Needed:
1. Housekeeping cart with cleaning materials and supplies
2. Two clean gallon buckets
3. Dust cloths
4. Dust mops
5. Two mop buckets and wringers
6. Clean terry cloths
7. Gloves and goggles

Procedures:

Housekeeping carts should be kept out of reach of residents and all chemicals should be stored at the bottom and center of the cart…with the open side facing the wall while cleaning. Sanitation functions include dusting, washing, disinfecting, vacuuming, scrubbing, wet cleaning, waxing, and buffing.

CLEANING PROCEDURES:
l. Put on gloves and goggles.
2. Pick up any refuse left by the former patient and dispose of them in a lined waste basket.
3. Use a treated dust cloth…dust chairs, the inside and outside of dressers, bedside stands, the over-bed tray table, window sills, light fixtures, wheel chairs, lamps, foot stools, telephones, television sets, and the outside of the heating and cooling unit.
4. Vacuum window shades, blinds or drapes, ceiling and dividing curtains when there are two patients per room.
5. Bring in a bucket of cleaner-disinfectant mixed according to the directions on the container.
6. With a wet cloth dipped into the cleaner-disinfectant solution, wet clean all furniture, equipment and fixtures which were previously dusted with a treated dust cloth.
7. Change or rinse your wet cleaning cloth when it becomes soiled in the cleaner-disinfectant solution.
8. Replenish solution as needed.
9. Allow all the surfaces washed to air dry.
10. Clean and disinfect the front and back-side of the head and foot board, plus legs, rails, and cranks of the bed.
11. Allow all washed surfaces to air dry.

12. Remove bed linens from the mattress and place them in a plastic bag for laundry.

13. Fold the mattress back half-way and wash the springs with a cleaner-disinfectant. Repeat the same procedure for the other half of the bed springs.

14. Thoroughly clean and disinfect one side of the mattress and dry it with a clean wash cloth, turn it and wash the other side, also drying it.

15. Clean the casters and wheels on the bed and tray table.

16. Spot clean walls, doors, and other areas that need cleaning with a cleaner-disinfectant.

17. Remove dust webs on walls and ceilings, using a vacuum cleaner.

18. Empty all waste baskets in the trash container and clean and disinfect the waste baskets, inside and out.

19. Dry the waste baskets and put in new liners.

20. Dry dust using a treated dust mop over the entire floor.

21. Using your mop bucket, clean and disinfect the entire floor area and allow the solution to remain on the floor for ten minutes and let air dry.

CONCLUSION:

Change your cleaner-disinfectant bucket often. When mopping floors, change your cleaner-disinfectant after mopping five rooms, more often if the soil load is heavy. Thoroughly wash your hands after cleaning each room.
