Vacuuming Tips
Vacuum With Your Eyes, Daily Carpet Maintenance
Daily maintenance of carpets is essential if you want to keep your carpets looking their best. However, too many times we have seen our housekeepers “going over” the same carpet area with the vacuum cleaner multiple times with little regard to the other 20,000 square feet of carpet that has yet to be vacuumed.
This problem can easily be avoided if we teach our housekeepers how to vacuum with their eyes. In most cases, every square inch of carpet does not need to be vacuumed every day. High traffic areas will need more attention than the other areas in your facility. However, if our housekeepers are LOOKING for the visible dirt and concentrate on removing this off the carpet a majority of the work will already be done. This should help increase the efficiency by increasing the amount of square feet we clean per hour. Depending on the facility you may want to include a complete “wall to wall” vacuuming every second or third day to make sure that dirt does not build up underneath the nap. This will also help reduce any odor problems and keep your indoor air quality maintained.
1. Barrier (entranceway) mats should always be used and vacuumed thoroughly every day. Entranceway mats are critical in “trapping” the dirt so it does not spread throughout your entire facility. If we can trap the dirt in these areas it will make it that much easier for us maintain the rest of the facility.
2. Be sure to vacuum using slow, constant strokes going in both directions.
3. Be certain to change the vacuum bag if gets more than 60% full.
4. Always be sure to vacuum with your eyes & not with your hands!
